Spurious tablets of ‘Montek-LC’ found in Hyderabad, huge stocks seized

Hyderabad: The Telangana State Drug Control Administration (TSDCA) has seized spurious versions of the drug ‘Montek-LC’, falsely claiming to be manufactured by Sun Pharma Laboratories Ltd, which were circulating in the market at Santoshnagar, Malakpet in Hyderabad. During the raids, the drug inspectors detained stocks of Montek-LC tablets, which are used in the management of allergic rhinitis, chronic idiopathic urticaria and bronchial asthma, and obtained a comparison statement for the suspected batches from the original manufacturer, Sun Pharma Laboratories Ltd., with the original batches.
The manufacturer also concluded that the batch of Montek-LC Tablets (Montelukast Sodium and Levocetirizine Hydrochloride Tablets) detained by the TSDCA spurious/ counterfeit drugs. The DCA conducted raids at shop number 34, Santoshnagar, Malakpet and seized counterfeit version of ‘Montek-LC’ Tablets. Spurious drugs pose a significant threat to public health, endangering patients’ well-being,” DG, DCA, V B Kamalsan Reddy said.
Meanwhile, in a separate raid, the TSDCA drug inspectors detected certain medicines circulating in the market with misleading claims on their labels stating that they treat kidney stones and eye infections. Such claims are in contravention of the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954.
The seized drugs include Konda Pindi Churnam (Ayurveda) for kidney stones, manufactured by Devi Natursl, LB Nagar, Rangareddy district and P Myecetin Ointment (Allopathy), for eye infections manufactured by Pharma Corp Inc, Indore, MP. Persons who make misleading advertisements regarding drugs for treatment of certain diseases and disorders are punishable under Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954.
