Hyderabad: When she abandoned her dental practice, to join a start-up as a PR consultant, little did Dr Sravanthi Ellasiri know that within a few years she would be heading her own enterprise.
Her decision seems to have paid-off, as she continues to get recognised for her innate talent at handling businesses. Recently, Sravanthi won the Youth Icon of Telangana by Nationwide Women Awards, adding yet another recognition in her long list of accolades.
“Since I was a kid I was a good communicator. I could convince people by talking to them. Coming from a family of academicians, I started preparing for medical exams and cracked it. However, towards the last year of my college I realised that I didn’t want to pursue medicine,” shares Sravanthi.
It was a chance that Sravanthi took while pursuing medicine at G Pulla Reddy Dental College in Kurnool that changed her path. During a visit to Hyderabad, she took a chance to explore her skills, after she was appointed Business Development Manager at Vyasa Overseas Consultants.
“I strongly believed that I have a flair for marketing and can handle things in a better way. That’s why I started my career as a PR Consultant,” she recalls.
But it was only after she finished her graduation, in November 2017, that she established Boxwish, her own business advising consultancy. While the initial days with the company were tough, today it is handling some really good clients.
“We had a bit of a rough start. People were apprehensive as my formal education was in the field of medicine. So, they hesitated before giving my company any business. However, soon a UK-based company that was looking to get into medical colleges approached my company, and things took a turn for good.” Since then, Boxwish has collaborated with companies which are into medical innovation using technology.
Within a year, Sravanthi received several awards and recognitions at State as well as national level. In 2018, she was honoured with the Women of Inspiration Award, by the Ministry of Women and Child Development. She is also the recipient of Her Excellency Award, by Government of Telangana and Best Emerging Entrepreneur, by Innovexia International.
Sravanthi says that her choices, although were difficult initially, made her what she is today.
“My family didn’t support me at the beginning. In fact, they didn’t even talk to me for a while. When I first shifted to Hyderabad, I had a suitcase full of clothes, and Rs 12,000. I built my empire with just that. With time, things between me and my family also got better.”
Working tirelessly each day to take her company to new heights, Sravanthi has several dreams to achieve. “Right now I am concentrating on my business. However, one of my goals is to open a multi-specialty hospital and aim to introduce emerging technologies for early detection of cancer”.
