Hyderabad: Noted spiritual leader and founder of Art of Living organisation, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar on Wednesday took-up Green India Challenge, which is being promoted across Telangana by Rajya Sabha MP, Joginpally Santosh Kumar, and planted sapling of Indian gooseberry (Amla) at Manasa Ganga Ashram, Shankarpalli.

On the occasion, Sri Sri was also presented with the ‘Vrikshavedam’ book by Green India Challenge representative Raghava. “The afforestation initiative taken-up in Telangana in the form of Green India Challenge is remarkable and praiseworthy.  The concept behind Green India Challenge of conserving nature with a view to safeguard nature for future generations is fantastic,” Sri Sri Ravi Shankar said.

The founder of the Art of Living organisation said that there are two types of tress, one which bears fruits and the other which gives shade for the living beings. Both these kinds of trees are very important for mankind.  There is a need to plant saplings, recognising the need of living beings, he said.

After planting the sapling, Sri Sri appreciated the way the Green India Challenge is being taken-forward in Telangana and across other parts of the Country by Santosh Kumar.

BC Commission Chairman Vakulabharanam Krishna Mohan Rao, Mallikarjun Reddy, Ashram representatives and other devotees were present at the occasion.
