Srinivas Goud slams Congress over microbrewery policy in Telangana
Former Minister V Srinivas Goud criticised the Congress government’s new excise policy allowing microbreweries in Telangana. He said the move would harm youth and weaken social stability, while accusing the government of prioritising liquor sales over welfare and ignoring healthy alternatives like Neera
Hyderabad: Former Minister V Srinivas Goud on Thursday hit out at the Congress government‘s new excise policy, which proposes to allow microbreweries across the State. He cautioned that such policies would endanger youth and undermine social stability, and demanded that the government withdraw it immediately.
Speaking at Telangana Bhavan, Srinivas Goud said the government was prioritising liquor sales over public welfare. He said companies were being allowed to establish a microbrewery on a minimum of 1,000 sq. yards of land. “This policy is designed to intoxicate the youth and silence their questioning of the government over its failure to deliver electoral promises,” he said.
He criticised the State government for promising to shut belt shops but instead expanding liquor outlets to boost revenue. “The previous BRS government planned Neera cafes, but the current Congress regime is promoting beer shops. Neera is a healthy drink, yet the government is weakening this option in favour of alcohol,” he said.
Srinivas Goud termed MLC K Kavitha’s recent remarks as unfortunate and reiterated that all leaders, including T Harish Rao and Santosh Rao, stood firmly behind party president K Chandrashekhar Rao. “Every BRS leader wants to see KCR as Chief Minister for a third time,” he said.
