Hyderabad: The stage is set for the grand biennial Sammakka Saralamma jatara at Medaram in Mulugu district from Wednesday with the State government making elaborate arrangements for smooth conduct of the festival using latest technology. More than one crore devotees are expected to arrive at Medaram this time, officials said.
Relying on technology, the Telangana Police made necessary security arrangements to ensure that devotees have a hassle-free darshan of Goddesses in Medaram. It collected images of Medaram jatara conducted earlier and accordingly chalked out plans. Priority has been mainly accorded to maintain proper queues and better traffic management. Using drones, the police department is monitoring the movement of devotees and vehicles arriving from different parts of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
“We will first monitor the situation with drone cameras and later issue instructions to the field-level officers to manage the crowd properly from the command and control centre set up at the temple,” said Mulugu Superintendent of Police Sangram Singh G Patil. The artificial intelligence (AI) technology and 383 surveillance cameras installed at the strategic locations covering the temple and its surroundings will also be useful in assessing devotees’ movement and avoiding chaos.
The same visuals from drone cameras will be used for regulating traffic since a large number of vehicles especially buses and three-wheelers will be thronging Medaram. These visuals will enable the traffic police to guide drivers to park their vehicles at the designated places. In all, 9,000 police will be taking part in bandobust duties at Medaram. Since the announcement of jatara dates, Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar, Director-General of Police M Mahendar Reddy and other senior officials conducted a series of meetings to ensure proper coordination among the departments concerned.
As Somesh Kumar asked officials to give more preference to sanitation and health, officials drafted staff from other districts to meet the requirements during jatara.
