Telangana marks National Sports Day with sports, fitness programmes across State
The Sports Authority of Telangana concluded three days of sports and fitness programmes across the State to mark National Sports Day. Events were held at 32 district headquarters and Hyderabad venues, promoting sports participation, healthy lifestyles and the Fit India Movement

Hyderabad: The Sports Authority of Telangana (SATG) successfully concluded a series of sports and fitness programmes conducted across Telangana from August 28 to 30 as part of the National Sports Day celebrations.
The events were organised in line with the Government of India’s theme, “Khelega Bharat – Jeetega Bharat.”
The programmes were held across all 32 district headquarters and at various sports grounds and stadiums in Hyderabad. Young athletes, students, sports enthusiasts, women and members of the public participated in large numbers. District sports authorities, public representatives, sports associations and voluntary organisations actively supported the successful conduct of the events.
On August 28, the birth anniversary of Indian hockey legend and national sporting icon Major Dhyan Chand was commemorated. Awareness programmes highlighting his contributions to Indian sport, the importance of sportsmanship and the benefits of a healthy lifestyle were organised across the State.
On August 29, National Sports Day was observed through the statewide “Ek Ghanta Khel Ke Maidan Mein” initiative. A variety of sporting events, including kho-kho, kabaddi, volleyball, basketball, handball and athletics competitions, were conducted. Special activities such as the “29 Challenge”, “Pass the Ball Challenge” and “Meet the Champions” programme were also organised. Women, youth, senior citizens and persons with disabilities enthusiastically participated, making the celebrations a grand success.
As part of the concluding events on August 30, “Special Sundays on Cycle”, runs and walkathons were organised to promote fitness and health awareness among the public. These activities aimed to encourage physical fitness, healthy living and greater participation in sports.
Officials of the Sports Authority of Telangana said the three-day celebrations were organised with the objective of promoting sports awareness among youth, encouraging healthy lifestyles and taking the message of the Fit India Movement to the grassroots level. They noted that the enthusiastic response witnessed across the State would further strengthen Telangana’s sporting culture and inspire greater participation in sports and fitness activities.
