Star Hospitals launches Heart Failure Clinic to address rising cardiac health crisis
Star Hospitals in Hyderabad has launched a dedicated Heart Failure Clinic to address the rising cardiac health crisis. The clinic offers structured care, early diagnosis, and advanced therapies for long-term outcomes
Hyderabad: Hyderabad-based Star Hospitals on Monday launched the Star Heart Failure Clinic, a specialised initiative to address the rising burden of heart ailments across India. The clinic aims to cater not just to patients in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, but across the country, combining advanced cardiac care with a strong public health focus, the hospital said in a press release.
According to hospital doctors, treatment claims for heart disease have nearly doubled over the past five years, and there has been a sharp increase in sudden cardiac deaths. In Telangana alone, 282 such deaths were recorded in 2022, with most victims being men aged between 30 and 50 years.
The newly launched clinic will offer comprehensive services including diagnostics and risk stratification, Guideline-Directed Medical Therapy (GDMT) with proven survival benefits, daycare infusions, cardiac rehabilitation and lifestyle support, evaluation for advanced therapies such as heart transplants and Left Ventricular Assist Devices (LVADs), along with long-term follow-up to prevent relapses and hospitalisations.
“Unlike the West, where patients typically present in their 70s, we’re seeing Indians with heart failure nearly a decade earlier—often in their 50s and 60s, at the peak of their working lives. This is precisely why we’ve launched the Heart Failure Clinic—to offer early diagnosis, structured therapy, and long-term care that can dramatically improve outcomes for patients and their families,” said Dr Gopichand Mannam, Managing Director, STAR Hospitals Group.
Senior doctors including Dr Ramesh Gudapati, Joint Managing Director; Dr Jagadeesh Babu Karusala, Senior Cardiac Electrophysiologist and Interventional Cardiologist; and Dr Suresh Yerra, Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiologist, were also present at the launch event.
