Hyderabad: The State government has introduced the “Family Register Certificate” to help families avail various government services. To this effect, the Revenue department issued GO Ms. No. 172 on Saturday.

Many people were facing difficulties in producing an authenticated and reliable record of their family composition to avail benefits under various government services. Accordingly, the government has decided to create a State-wide electronic register, which will be called the “Telangana Family Register”. It will contain the Family Register Identification Number, which will be the same as the family’s ration card number.

It will also contain details of the head of the family, each family member, the relationship of each member to the head of the family, the age and date of birth of each member, Aadhaar numbers and other relevant details.

The Telangana Family Register Certificate will be introduced on the MeeSeva platform under the Revenue department services category. Citizens can apply for a copy of the Family Register Certificate through any MeeSeva centre, the MeeSeva online portal or the mobile application on payment of the prescribed user charges.

A family member whose particulars are borne in the register and who has attained the age of majority will be eligible to apply for a copy of the Family Register Certificate. The service will be delivered within two days from the date of application.

Advisor to the Telangana Government Mohammed Ali Shabbir welcomed the State government’s decision to introduce the Telangana Family Register and the Family Register Certificate.

He recalled that on July 13, he had submitted a representation to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy proposing that Telangana introduce a Permanent Residence Certificate (PRC) on the lines of Karnataka to help genuine residents facing documentation difficulties, particularly during the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. While welcoming the Family Register, he said the government’s latest initiative addressed a broader administrative requirement by creating an authenticated digital record of family composition based on the Food Security Card database.
