Nizamabad: State Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Commission Chairman Bakki Venkataiah directed the District Collector and Superintendent of Police to take appropriate measures to clear pending cases concerning the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act in the district.
Venkataiah, who held a review meeting on SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act cases on Friday, said the officials should specially review the matter and resolve the pending cases expeditiously.
Efforts should be made to clear all the pending cases within one month, he said, adding that if necessary a special drive should be organised to resolve the issue within the stipulated time.
Expressing displeasure over Village Development Committee members issuing orders boycotting and penalising weaker sections, he said stringent action would be taken against committee members if they tried to take law into their own hands.
Stringent action would be taken against police officials who try to harass people belonging to SC/ST communities, he warned.
