Telangana Covaxin maker Bharat Biotech chairman Krishna Ella and co-founder Suchitra Ella were among the four persons from Telangana who were named for the Padma awards declared by the Central government on Republic Day.
The Ella couple were named for the Padma Bhushan in the trade and industry category while Darshanam Mogilaiah, S Ramachandraiah and Padmaja Reddy, were named for Padmashri, all in the category of art.
Mogilaiah, who is part of Dakkali tribe from erstwhile Mahabubnagar, plays the 12-fret kinnera. He lent lyrics to the introduction song in actor Pawan Kalyan’s upcoming film ‘Bheemla Nayak’. Ramchandraiah from Bhadradri Kothagudem is a Koya tribe singer while Padmaja Reddy from Hyderabad is Kuchipudi danseuse.
Andhra Pradesh
Andhra Pradesh celebrated 73rd Republic Day with the announcement to create 13 new districts. The new districts will come into being from Ugadi, the Telugu New Year. A notification to double the number of districts to 26 was issued on Wednesday.

In his speech at Republic Day function at IGMC Stadium Complex here, Governor Biswa Bhushan Harichandan announced that new districts are being formed to fulfill the promise made by YSRCP in its election manifesto to ensure good governance and efficient delivery of service.
Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy had promised during 2019 elections that every parliamentary constituency in the state will be turned into a district. The State has 25 Lok Sabha constituencies.
Tamil Nadu
About one million birds of 80 different species have been identified during the first phase of the synchronised bird census in Tamil Nadu. The census carried out on January 28 and 29 at Point Calimere, Valinokkam, Dhanushkodi, Thoothukudi, and Kanniyakumari revealed a large number of several species of birds with flamingos having a major presence.

More than 20,000 flamingos were detected from Point Calimere, Valinokam (10,000), Dhanushkodi (2,000), Thoothukudi (2,000) and Kanniyakumari (600). Forest officials said that the heavy rains that lashed the state in 2020 and 2021 have resulted in the presence of a large number of birds.
Several uncommon species like Eurasian Curlew, Whimbrel, and Ruddy turnstone were detected at Point Calimere, Pichavaram, Kaliveli Lake, Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram, and Adayar Creek.

Travel platform Booking.com announces the recipients of its tenth annual Traveller Review Awards, including the 2022 Most Welcoming Places on Earth. Kerala has topped the list once again as the ‘Most Welcoming Region’ in India followed by Goa and Puducherry. Palolem, Agonda, Mararikulam, Thekkady and Varkala are the top five ‘Most Welcoming Cities’ in India.
The awards also highlight hotels as the most welcoming accommodation type by Indians followed by homestay, resort, guesthouse and apartments.Three out of five destinations from Kerala are a part of the Most Welcoming Cities in India. From Palolem (Goa) and Agonda (Goa) to Mararikulam (Kerala) and Thekkady (Kerala), these places reveal the love for coastal getaways by Indian travellers.
Himachal Pradesh
Following heavy snowfall in Himachal Pradesh, many roads including four national highways have been closed and a number of power supply and water supply schemes disrupted.
The State Disaster Management Authority, in its press note, informed, “Due to heavy snowfall, 731 roads including four National Highways closed, 1365 power supply schemes disrupted, 102 water supply schemes disrupted and 3220 electricity supply schemes were disrupted, out of which 1,955 have been restored.”
The India Meteorological Department informed that very dense fog was reported at isolated places including Kalpa area of Himachal Pradesh where the visibility dipped down to 50 metres. The Regional Meteorological Centre in Shimla said the temperature in the city dropped down to minus one degrees Celsius.
