Telangana
The Bonalu festivities in the city took off with celebrations at Golconda here on Sunday. Clad in their festive best, devotees in good numbers started to throng the temple in the morning. A cloudy and pleasant weather in the morning gave way to rains in the afternoon but that did not deter the devotees. Carrying traditional ‘bonam’ offerings, women in large numbers participated in the festivities at Golconda. Authorities have made elaborate arrangements for the festival while implementing Covid-19 protocols. Traffic was diverted around the fort area to prevent any possible inconvenience to the devotees.
Bihar
Much-awaited National Dolphin Research Centre (NDRC) will soon come up in Patna. Process to set up the research centre has started. Opening up of the research centre will be a big step
towards conservation of endangered Gangetic River dolphin. To set up the research centre, NDRC is coming up on 4,400 square metre plots of land in premises of Patna University, near banks of River Ganga. Bihar urban development department has already cleared construction of NDRC’s building at a distance of 200 metres from the Ganga.
Arunachal Pradesh
National Research Centre on Yak (NRCY) at Dirang in Arunachal Pradesh has partnered with National Insurance Company Ltd. to insure high-altitude yak. High-altitude yaks are feeling the
climate change heat in Himalayan belt. Climate change and inexplicable changes in weather pattern have been reported from yak rearing areas across India. As a result, countrywide population yak has been decreasing at an alarming rate. Insurance policy will shield yak owners against risks posed by weather calamities, in-transit mishaps, diseases, riots, surgical operations and strikes.
Gujarat
Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated multiple railway projects and 3-new attractions at Science City, Ahmedabad. Modi also inaugurated a robotic gallery, an aquatic
gallery, and Nature Park in the Science City. The aquatic gallery is spread over an area of 15,000 sq meters and is the largest aquarium in India. A key attraction of the aquatic gallery will be a 28 meter long unique walkway tunnel. Robotic Gallery will take the visitors through the history of evaluation of robots. The unique attraction will be the welcoming humanoid robot that will be able to communicate with visitors expressing emotions such as surprise, excitement, and joy.
Tamil Nadu
The Tamil Nadu government has decided to plant 28 crore saplings in order to increase the forest cover, state Forest Minister K Ramachandran said on Tuesday. With a geographical area of 130,006 Sq Kms, the state has at present 23.8 per cent of forest cover and to increase it to
33 per cent, the government decided to plant 20 crore to 30 crore saplings, the Minister told reporters here. All the departments, including Revenue, horticulture, highway and other social welfare and NGOs will be involved in the drive to plant 28 crore saplings by removing trees like eucalyptus in another 10 years, he said. He also appealed to the members of the public to plant a tree on every birthday.
