Hyderabad: What could be common between a construction worker, miners, traffic police personnel, JCB operator and on-ground workers? All of them have to wear helmets for a long stretch of time in hot and humid conditions. Bikers and regular two-wheeler riders know very well about the humidity caused due to wearing a helmet for an extended period of time.
Wouldn’t it be a blessing if a helmet could be fitted with a cooling mechanism? This is exactly what Hyderabad-based entrepreneurs Kausthub Kaundinya, Sreekanth Kommula and Anand Kumar are trying to solve with their out-of-the-box innovation AC Helmet. Started due to their experience of facing extreme heat while riding a bike with helmet, these three young innovators looked to provide relief to personnel working in extreme conditions.
“We started researching this product right after college in 2016 as we weren’t keen to work for any company. After extensive research, we learned that while daily commuters are facing issues of heat after wearing a helmet, workers employed in field work are worst hit. That’s why we thought of developing a cooling mechanism inside a helmet,” Kaundinya, co-founder and CEO, Jarsh Innovations told Telangana Today.
The AC helmet is available in four different models/variants targeting four different customer segments. First is a helmet that has a battery power of two hours. Second is a model designed for the workforce and comes with an external battery that runs for 10 hours while the third helmet, which can be used by JCB operators, can be charged by connecting it to the heavy vehicle. The fourth helmet comes with welding shield and has the same features of the first model.
“Our helmets are being used by Hyderabad Traffic Police personnel, railway workers, workers in the MRF Tyre factory and we have an exclusive partnership with JCB wherein our helmets are used by their on-ground staff. We are also offering leasing options to construction companies wherein they can rent these helmets for six months or one year,” says Kaundinya.
The company has been supported by the Research and Innovation Circle of Hyderabad (RICH) in terms of R&D, mentoring and connections. The startup has a 1,000 unit capacity assembly unit in the city and in the next two months, it plans to launch the product in the Middle-East as well.
