Hyderabad: Netherlands-based mobility tech company Stellantis, is embarking on its journey to clock €4 billion in revenues by 2026 and €20 billion by 2030, and believes that Hyderabad in particular, and India in general have a key role to play in contributing to it. The company plans to hire 2,200 people in Hyderabad by 2024.
The company has mapped out its software strategy to deploy next-generation tech platforms, building on existing connected vehicle capabilities to transform how customers interact with their vehicles.
Mamatha Chamarthi, head, Software Business and Product Management, Global, Americas and Asia, Stellantis told Telangana Today, “In Hyderabad, the focus will be on artificial intelligence and software engineering. The company will be benefited by the talent pool available in the city. We have 500 employees in our IT division and we will add 1,200 jobs. We will also add 1,000 jobs in the software division. All this will happen by 2024. We have seen how automotive tech centres have scaled faster here.”
Stellantis has played a strategic role in inviting Plug and Play, a global digital accelerator and a prominent early investor in Google, Paypal, and Dropbox to set up their office in Hyderabad. The company has engineering operations in Chennai and Pune.
She further added, “India will play a pivotal role in the artificial intelligence (AI) driven technology platforms with its AI and software capabilities. We will form partnerships with universities across India and the rest of the world to attract the best talent. We plan to add 4,500 software engineers globally by 2024, with significant hiring lined up in India. We are also analysing the Indian market as an end-user market.”
Stellantis, which has €380 million revenues, has targeted €4 billion in annual revenues by 2026, generated by software-enabled product offerings and subscriptions. More than €30 billion of investments have been planned through 2025 to execute software and electrification transformation.
The company aims to develop three AI-powered technology platforms starting in 2024 including STLA Brain, STLA SmartCockpit, and STLA AutoDrive. These three AI platforms and software strategy will build the company’s EV strategy.
Strategic ties
The company has strategic partnerships with BMW, Foxconn and Waymo. The partnership with BMW is up to Level 3 automated driving and with Google company Waymo for Level 4 and 5 in light commercial vehicles segment for automated people and cargo moving.
The company signed a non-binding MoU with Foxconn to design purpose-built micro-controllers to support Stellantis and third-party customers. They will develop four families of chips that will cover over 80 per cent of the company’s micro-controllers’ needs, helping to simplify the supply chain. Adoption and installation of products into Stellantis vehicles is targeted by 2024. The company also plans to partner with other semiconductor companies, she informed.
She added, “We will leverage various strategic partnerships we have with leading technology companies to continue to drive innovation, efficiency, shared know-how and development costs.”
Five core pillars
Stellantis will grow its software and connected services business through five key pillars that include services and subscriptions; features on demand, data as a service and fleet services; vehicle pricing and resale value; conquests, service retention and cross-selling.
To support this transformation, Stellantis is creating a software and data academy to retrain more than 1,000 internal engineers in multiple roles and develop its software community. The company is also hiring top software and AI talent from technology and other industries globally, Hyderabad-born tech leader informed.
Today, Stellantis has 12 million monetisable connected cars globally. By 2026, this is expected to grow to 26 million vehicles and by 2030 it will reach 34 million vehicles.
