Khammam: Agriculture Minister Thummala Nageswara Rao directed officials to take strict measures to prevent the recurrence of fire accidents in Khammam agricultural market.

He along with District Collector Muzammil Khan and Commissioner of Police Sunil Dutt visited the cotton yard on Thursday and took stock of the situation following a fire accident that took place on Wednesday night.

Nageswara Rao said that the reasons for the fire accident were not yet known and police were investigating the matter. In order to prevent such accidents in the future the authorities have been told to submit a report to the government on the safety arrangements in the market.

He said that as per the promise given during the election, modernisation works would be started with Rs 100 crore in the market. The foundation stone for the works would be laid soon. The roads around the market would be widened for free traffic flow.

BRS district president, MLC Tatha Madhusudhan who visited the market along with party leaders Gundala Krishna and Pagadala Nagaraju wanted the government to set up a permanent fire station on the market premises.
