Mancherial: A girl student died allegedly by suicide as she was depressed after being reportedly harassed by teachers at a government-run social welfare residential school in Chennur on Sunday.

Parents alleged that Shri Hindu (12), a Class VII student hailing Gangaram village in Chennur mandal and studying at the school attempted to end her life by consuming pesticide in her hostel on Friday. She died while undergoing treatment after being shifted to a hospital in Chennur when she experienced vomits on Sunday morning.

The parents said that she was found to have taken the pesticide in medical investigations. They accused officials of the institution of keeping the incident under the wraps, raising many eyebrows. They regretted that they would have saved their daughter if the officials were informed about her extreme step on Friday itself.

The aggrieved parents expressed concern over the safety of students in the residential school. They demanded that the government order a probe into the suicide and to take stringent action against the teachers for harassing Hindu. They opined that a section of teachers were being targeted for complaining against deficiencies at the school.

Police said that a case was registered based on a complaint received from the authorities of the school. Investigation was taken up by Jaipur ACP Venkateshwarlu. The body was shifted to the government general hospital in Mancherial town for post-mortem. Parents were likely to stage a protest seeking justice. Police force was deployed to prevent protests by the parents.
