Hyderabad: A final-year nursing student allegedly drugged an elderly couple on the pretext of administering Covid-19 vaccine and made away with their gold jewellery at Meerpet on Saturday evening.
The student, Anusha used to stay in a portion let out by the elderly couple Kuntala Laxman, 80 and his wife Kasthuri, 70. Despite vacating the house a few weeks ago and staying in a neighbouring colony in Meerpet, Anusha was in touch with the couple and used to visit their house occasionally.
A few days ago, she met the couple at their house and advised them to take free Covid-19 vaccine to protect them from the virus. She also informed them that those taking the vaccine would feel drowsy for over 30 minutes and there was no need to panic.
Believing Anusha, the couple agreed to take it. As per her plan, Anusha came to the couple’s house on Saturday evening and administered an injection to them claiming it was a Covid vaccine. A few minutes later, the couple became unconscious after which she made away with the gold ornaments weighing 10 tolas.
The incident came to light when the couple gained conscious late in the night and found their jewellery missing. On hearing their screams, neighbours rushed to their rescue and alerted the police.
Police suspect the nursing student could have administered sedatives to the couple, due to which they became unconscious. Special teams have been formed to trace her. According to police, Anusha worked as an ANM for a short period before pursuing a nursing course.
