Hyderabad: Student leaders from different organisations joined Telangana Jagruthi, the cultural and social wing of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) in the presence of its chief and MLC K Kavitha on Saturday.

Draping them with traditional scarves, Kavitha formally welcomed them into the organization while emphasising the role of students in shaping society.

Addressing the gathering, Kavitha called upon the student community to rise and lead the movement for ‘Samajika Telangana’ (social justice in Telangana). She highlighted the historic role of students in the Telangana statehood movement, stating that students fought in the forefront during the Telangana agitation and played a critical role in its success.

“With the same spirit, they must now lead the charge in achieving social justice in Telangana,” she said.

Kavitha also criticised the Congress government’s approach to local body elections, particularly regarding reservations for Backward Classes (BCs).

“Holding local body elections without ensuring 42% reservations for BCs is unacceptable. We will not remain quiet if the elections were conducted without fulfilling this promise. The government must implement 42% reservations before proceeding with elections,” she demanded and pointed out that while BC reservation bills were pending with the Centre, rushing for the elections without addressing this issue would be unjust.

Taking a swipe at Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, Kavitha questioned his claims of guiding Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah on the caste census. Congress party had released photos featuring Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar, notably excluding Revanth Reddy during the discussions.

“Within an hour of Revanth’s claim to have participated in the deliberations over caste census, Congress released a photo without him, exposing his false claims,” she said.

She accused the CM of being totally disconnected from public issues and languishing without Rahul Gandhi’s attention and urged him to focus on people’s problems instead of frequent Delhi visits.
