Hyderabad: The Congress government’s decision to introduce separate Bills on BC reservations in education, employment, and politics, came as a major victory for Telangana Jagruthi and BRS MLC K Kavitha. The decision, taken during a recent Cabinet meeting, follows Kavitha’s year-long campaign demanding justice for backward classes.
For over 14 months, Telangana Jagruthi president and MLC Kavitha has been at the forefront of the BC reservation movement, organising roundtable discussions and protests under Telangana Jagruthi.
She had repeatedly called for reservations based on population ratio and urged the government to pass separate legislations to provide BC reservations in education, employment and politics. During a dharna at Indira Park on February 4, she had pressed for special session Bills addressing BC reservations.
Kavitha also played a key role in the Legislative Council, countering Congress’ attempts to weaken demands for BC rights. She submitted a detailed report to the government-appointed Dedicated Commission on BC reservations in local bodies and actively participated in the caste census process. With the Congress government now conceding to her demand, Kavitha and Telangana Jagruthi have secured another political milestone in the fight for BC rights.
