Hyderabad: SugarBox Networks is enabling Hyderabad Metro Rail, as one of the first public transport systems in the country, to give its passengers the option to download or stream content for free, even in the absence of an active internet connection. The company is looking to create a better experience for train commuters, as compared to similar services available in flights.
SugarBox Networks powers in-transit connectivity across all trains at Hyderabad Metro Rail including the high-footfall stations. Using this platform, passengers can now consume content across various categories such as entertainment, education, ecommerce and fintech too.
A recent survey conducted by the company highlighted that Metro commuters spent approximately 60 minutes on their phone (in a day), when on-the-go. During this time, they used a number of services, where YouTube and messenger apps were the most preferred. Interestingly, about 75 per cent of the users latched on to the network to start using SugarBox services.
Rohit Paranjpe, co-founder and CEO, SugarBox Networks, said, “Our miniaturised cloud that we call the ‘Hyperlocal Edge Cloud’, works wonders for L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad Limited Railway commuters to enjoy seamless content during their travel time.”
KVB Reddy, MD and CEO, L&TMRHL, said, “It is heartening to note that SugarBox Networks has expanded their services from entertainment and education segment to ecommerce and fintech categories as well. The novelty of the concept is adding value to the passengers by providing free of charge.”
