Hyderabad: Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) on Monday announced that it has inducted 20 transgender personnel into its security services.
After successfully completing their Induction Security Training, the trained personnel began performing their duties from Monday, December 1, 2025, at selected Metro stations and inside Metro trains, an HMR press release said.
The engagement of transgender personnel marks a significant milestone in HMR’s mission to create a safe, inclusive, and commuter-friendly environment. Their presence will strengthen frontline passenger services and reinforce the safety framework, especially for women commuters.
The key responsibilities of the newly inducted personnel include women commuter Safety, supporting and enhancing safety measures in general areas and in ladies-only coaches, passenger guidance and support, assisting passengers with directions, information, and on-ground facilitation.
Some of the other key responsibilities include baggage scanner assistance, monitoring baggage scanner operations to ensure smooth and secure passenger movement, street-level and concourse security, and maintaining a visible, reassuring, and accessible security presence across station premises.
The transgender security staff will also handle overall station security support, contributing to a safe, orderly, and welcoming environment at designated metro stations, the press release added.
