Hyderabad: Sundays on the Tank Bund are promising to get even better, after the traffic curbs, with the State government now planning a multitude of programmes and more facilities at the popular hangout spot.
According to a tweet by Urban Development Special Chief Secretary Arvind Kumar on Saturday, September 12 would be a ‘Sunday Funday’ from 5 pm to 10 pm with several programmes lined up for the public.
A performance by the ceremonial Bagpiper band of the Indian Army, arts and crafts stalls, display and sale by the popular artisans from Shilparamam, food trucks, a TSCO handloom stall, free distribution of saplings by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority and to top these all, a laser show as well are on the cards.
The Funday to add to the festive spirit already gripping the city comes after Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao, who took the initiative for the traffic curbs on Sundays, suggested earlier this week to Arvind Kumar that more kids-oriented activities should be started, including a laser show as well.
The entire traffic curb and funday episode began unfolding on August 24, when Rama Rao, responding to a suggestion from a citizen, asked the City Police to consider traffic curbs for a few hours on Sundays on the Tank Bund. City Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar issued orders the next day itself, announcing that the Tank Bund would be closed for general traffic between 5 pm and 10 pm on Sundays.
The last two Sundays, as a result, have seen the traffic curbs, and in turn, the public coming to Tank Bund in huge numbers, strolling along the scenic stretch and making use of the recent facilities that the State government has installed there.
