Chhattisgarh former CM Raman Singh speaking to the press in Karimnagar on Thursday.

Karimnagar: Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister and BJP national vice-president Raman Singh on Thursday demanded that the State government suspend Karimnagar police commissioner and other police officers involved in the alleged attack on Karimnagar MP and State BJP president Bandi Sanjay Kumar’s camp office on January 2 night.

Besides their suspension, a comprehensive enquiry should also be ordered into the incident if the State government has any regret about the incident, he said.

Raman Singh met Sanjay and his family members here, and after checking the MP’s camp office which was allegedly damaged in a clash between BJP workers and police, he interacted with party workers who sustained injuries in the incident.

Later, speaking to reporters, the former Chief Miniser said: “Opening doors using crowbars and gas cutters is a bad practice. The agitation by Sanjay Kumar and other BJP workers demanding that the State government make changes to GO 317 is appreciable.”

Though the BJP workers were on Jagarana Deeksh in a democratic manner and were following Covid norms, police disturbed it, he alleged.

Police misbehaved with women activist: Chugh

BJP national general secretary and Telangana in-charge Tarun Chugh came down heavily on Karimnagar police for allegedly misbehaving with the party’s women workers during the arrest of BJP State president and Karimnagar MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar and other party workers on January 2. Tarun Chugh, along with MLAs Raja Singh and Raghunandan Rao, met former MLA Bodige Shobha and other BJP workers in Karimnagar jail during ‘mulakat’ on Thursday. Later, speaking to reporters, he said though Sanjay Kumar and other BJP workers were staging deeksha in a democratic way, and following Covid norms. “The entire police department is being maligned only because of a few police officers who were acting like workers of the ruling party,” he said. Besides meeting Governor Tamilisai Soundaryarajan, a report would be submitted to union Home Minister Amit Shah, he said.
