The Union Agriculture Ministry has approved procurement of 20 lakh metric tonnes of potatoes in Uttar Pradesh at Rs 6,500 per metric tonne, with a financial outlay of Rs 203.15 crore. Alongside, chana procurement in Andhra Pradesh has been raised to 1,13,250 metric tonnes, while tur procurement in Karnataka has been extended till May 15.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy made an announcement in this regard, following his meeting with PMFBY CEO and Joint Secretary for union Agriculture Ministry Ritesh Chauhan at the Secretariat on Friday.
The Government of India has already included some vegetable items, including tomato, produced in Nepal in its quarantine list so as to facilitate its export to India, he said.
In the nation-wide data released by the union Agriculture Ministry on Friday, the Telangana State recorded over seven per cent growth in paddy sown area during the ongoing Vaanakalam (Kharif) season when compared to last Vaanakalam season.
