A man was arrested on the charges of smuggling banned gutka in Wankidi mandal centre on Wednesday. Forty bags containing gutka packets worth Rs 11.22 lakh were seized from his possession.

Two traders were arrested for allegedly smuggling banned gutka products at Chelukagudem village in Dandepalli mandal on Tuesday.

The sale and consumption of gutka, scented and flavoured tobacco has been banned in Maharashtra since 2012.

The commissioner stated that the eight were found to have stored jaggery, ammonium chloride, gutka packets and sub-standard cotton seeds in different warehouses belonging to Erra Chandrasekhar
