Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Tuesday Israeli forces will stay in a buffer zone on the Syrian border, and specifically on the summit of Mount Hermon, “until another arrangement is found that will ensure Israel's security.”
The Israeli PM's speech was released after an Israeli official told CNN the security cabinet had approved a ceasefire deal. Netanyahu also said the duration of a ceasefire would 'depend on what happens in Lebanon.'
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre described the talk as "direct" and "productive," stating that the two leaders discussed Israel's response to last week's Iranian attack, though no specific details were provided.
In a recorded video address on Saturday, Netanyahu criticized Macron and other Western leaders for "calling for arms embargoes against Israel." He asserted that Israel "will win with or without their support," adding, "But their shame will persist long after the war is won."
