The Bombay High Court’s Goa bench held that draft electoral rolls prepared during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) cannot be used to delete voters’ names. The court questioned the Election Commission over alleged voter deletions through the ERONET system without hearings.
The Telangana Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) C. Sudarshan Reddy warned that failure to submit filled-in enumeration forms during the Special Intensive Revision could lead to deletion of names from electoral rolls.
The Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls has begun in Hyderabad district and will continue until July 24. Booth Level Officers will make three household visits, while voters can verify records, update addresses, submit forms online, and seek assistance through helplines.
A Booth Level Officer was found hanging inside a primary school in Murshidabad district. His family alleged that excessive pressure related to SIR duties led him to take the step. Police have sent the body for post-mortem and started an investigation
