SBI, Kotak Bank, IndusInd Bank, HDFC, ONGC and Axis Bank were top gainers in the Sensex pack.

In the previous session, the rupee strengthened by 3 paise to close at 73.56 against the US dollar.

Similarly, the broader NSE Nifty rose 97.20 points or 0.73 per cent to an all-time closing high of 13,355.75. It touched its record intra-day peak of 13,366.65 in early trade.

UltraTech Cement was the top gainer in the Sensex pack, rising around 4 per cent, followed by L&T, M&M, Maruti, ONGC, Bharti Airtel, PowerGrid and ITC.

The rupee was trading in a narrow range on Friday considering the weak demand for riskier assets on the occasion of Dhanteras.

At the interbank forex market, the domestic currency opened up at 74.04 against the US dollar, then edged slightly lower to 74.05 in early deals, a rise of 10 paise over its last close.

The dollar index, which gauges the greenback's strength against a basket of six currencies, dipped 0.06 per cent to 92.16.
