An Indian student was seriously injured after being shot in the abdomen during an altercation in Chicago's West Rogers Park on Wednesday night. The incident occurred following an altercation at West Devon Avenue.

The 21-year old Indian student Harsimrat Randhawa was struck by a stray bullet when she was waiting at a bus stop on her way to work and shots were fired by a car occupant

The girl, who has three siblings, was shot repeatedly and was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Speaking to reporters near the scene of the shooting in Chicago's Park Manor neighborhood, Police Superintendent David Brown said investigators were still seeking a possible motive.
