A total of 19,60,51,962 vaccine doses have been administered through 28,16,725 sessions, according to the provisional report till 7 am.

The ministry said 6,71,285 beneficiaries in the age group of 18-44 years have received their first dose of COVID vaccine across 12 states and UTs. 

Registration for the newly eligible population groups had commenced on April 28.

The Government of India has so far provided nearly 16.16 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses to states and UTs free of cost. 

A decision in this regard was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired online by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

As many as 75 of the 120 centres, mainly at private hospitals, suspended vaccination on Friday morning due to unavailability of doses.

Maharashtra, Kerala, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Karnataka continue to report a surge in the COVID daily new cases.

A total of 2,06,62,073 vaccine doses have been given, as per the provisional report till 7 pm on March 6, the Union Health Ministry said in a release.

India's total active caseload stands at 1.76 lakh (1,76,319) which comprises 1.58 per cent of India's total infections.
