An elderly Dalit man was allegedly forced to lick the ground near a temple in Lucknow after being accused of urinating there on Diwali. Police arrested the accused, while opposition parties slammed the BJP government, calling the act a “blot on humanity.”
The four were already booked under relevant sections of Bharatiya Nagarik Sanhitha and SC, ST Prevention of Atrocities Act for abusing Suryakanth and investigations were taken up.
Those apprehended include Rabbani Rajasabanavar, Zaheer Ahmad Savanuru, Modinasaab, Ahmad Saab, and Rajesabanavar. The victim has been identified as Ramappa Harijana.
Three policemen, including an outpost in-charge, were suspended and departmental enquiry was initiated against them for allegedly beating a Dalit youth.
