The Krishna River Management Board has instructed the Andhra Pradesh government not to take up the construction of the proposed Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Scheme till a Detailed Project Report is submitted and appraised by the board and Central Water Commission.
The Central government has taken up the construction of RRR at a cost of Rs 17,000 crore, he said, adding that 17 national and State highways would be linked to the proposed RRR.
Speaking at a media conference here, Ranga Reddy said SLBC tunnel works had come to a standstill due to non-payment of bills to the contractors by the State government.
He said the government was keen on developing the town and had already sanctioned funds. Udhaya Samudram would be developed into a mini-tank bund and tourist place.
