Nalgonda: CPI(M) State secretariat committee member Julakanti Ranga Reddy on Monday urged the State government to earmark Rs 3,000 crore in the upcoming State budget to restart works of SLBC tunnel.
Speaking at a media conference here, Ranga Reddy said SLBC tunnel works had come to a standstill due to non-payment of bills to the contractors by the State government. The contractors were ready to resume works if the government clears their pending bills, he said, and urged the State government to allocate Rs 3,000 crores in the budget for SLBC tunnel works and complete it on a war-footing.
Stating that the absence of Detailed Project Report (DPR) was also causing delay in land acquisition for Dindi Lift Irrigation Scheme in the district, he said the State government should immediately release Rs 1,000 crores for the completion of Udhya Samudram Balancing Reservoir (Brahmanavellemla project), which would provide irrigation facility to one lakh acre.
“Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao should come clear on this project at the public meeting at Haliya in the district on February 10, if he is sincere about solving the irrigation problem,” he added.
The party’s district secretary Mudireddy Sudhakar Reddy urged the Chief Minister to announce that his government was opposed to the new farm laws of the Centre. “Otherwise, the farmers would teach a lesson to the TRS in future,” he said, adding that the Chief Minister should also clarify the government’s stand on scrapping of paddy procurement centres.
