Chennai plans to reintroduce double-decker buses after 17 years, with MTC proposing 20 air-conditioned electric buses under a GCC model, to operate on select routes with adequate clearance
The open-deck double-decker buses, which have served as sightseeing buses for tourists since the 1990s, will also disappear from the city streets in the first week of October.
The financial capital is the last urban area where these double-deckers are still running, though they were once found in robust numbers in Kolkata, Bengaluru, Delhi, Thiruvananthapuram and Chennai, among other cities, officials said.
