A police official said the search operation turned into an encounter after militants opened fire on the security forces who retaliated.

The militants opened fire on security forces when they were conducting a search and cordon operation on Wednesday in Kandipora.

According to IG Bastar P Sundarraj, on the morning of February 24 around 10 am, there was an encounter between security forces and Naxals in the forest hill of village Kukur.
