Five schools in the neighbourhood closed, residents within a one-kilometre radius of the accident site evacuated

The incident occurred when the driver was navigating a turn near the junction. Around 12:30 pm on Monday, the accident caused diesel to leak from the overturned fuel tanker.

According to reports, after the incident, locals rushed to the scene before police were able to do so and began siphoning fuel from the tanker.

Lebanon's Health Minister Hamad Hassan called on all hospitals in northern Lebanon and the capital, Beirut, to receive those injured by the explosion.

Interior Ministry spokesman Tariq Arian said the fire began when a spark set one fuel tanker ablaze.
