The Department of Telecommunications has directed all mobile phone makers and importers to pre-install the Sanchar Saathi fraud-reporting app on new devices within 90 days. Existing units in sales channels must receive the app through updates. Firms must submit compliance reports within 120 days.
The Government Railway Police (GRP) has successfully traced and recovered 200 mobile phones worth Rs 30 lakh using the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal. Special teams across the Railway Police District tracked devices lost or stolen from passengers, often during journeys when phones were misplaced or snatched.
Rachakonda Police have recovered 1,130 stolen or lost mobile phones worth Rs 3 crore using the CEIR portal. The recovered devices will be returned to owners on Tuesday. Citizens are urged to use CEIR to report lost phones
