GRP hands over 200 recovered mobiles to owners
The Government Railway Police (GRP) has successfully traced and recovered 200 mobile phones worth Rs 30 lakh using the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal. Special teams across the Railway Police District tracked devices lost or stolen from passengers, often during journeys when phones were misplaced or snatched.
Hyderabad: The Government Railway Police (GRP) special teams have traced a total of 200 mobile phones belonging to rail users and citizens, which were either lost or stolen, using the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal.
The recovered phones, altogether worth Rs 30 lakh were handed over to their owners on Friday.
The Central Equipment Identity Register portal application was put to use by the Government Railway Police in April 2024, and mobile phones have been recovered over the past month.
GRP officials said special teams have been formed across the Railway Police District for tracing lost or stolen mobile phones of citizens.
The phones were either stolen during the journey from passengers who were sitting on footboards or near the windows where they misplaced phones or some thieves snatched them away, railway police said.
GRP officials requested passengers to be careful about their belongings and, if any mobile phone theft occurs in railway stations, to block their mobile phones with IMEI numbers in CEIR portal immediately by logging onto www.ceir.gov.in
Alternatively, the rail passengers who lost mobiles should immediately contact the nearest police station to block IMEI using the CEIR portal, officials said.
