The quarterfinal loss at the US Open has "left a significant emotional impact" on PV Sindhu but the premier Indian shuttler has vowed to finish the season on a high.
Sindhu secured a 21-16, 21-19 win over Yigit in the match to progress to the second round. She started off brilliantly in the first game, taking a 10-5 lead but her opponent managed to end the lead, with scores reading 11-11.
"I learnt a lot last year. The first thing was patience, because we had no tournaments for a couple of months. We couldn't step out or play badminton, and we needed to have patience," Sindhu said.
Another Indian shuttler HS Prannoy also contracted the virus. Both tested for the virus and their reports came with positive results in their third test.
The 19-year-old Indian, who had claimed five titles including two Super 100 tournaments last year, produced a clinical performance to outwit Christo Popov 21-9 21-15
