The Godavari River crossed the first flood warning level at Bhadrachalam after heavy upstream rainfall pushed inflows beyond 10 lakh cusecs. Authorities have sounded an alert, opened control rooms and asked residents in vulnerable areas to remain vigilant as water levels continue rising.
Two Maoists were killed in an encounter with security forces in the Indravati river area of Bijapur, Chhattisgarh, with arms and explosives recovered. Separately, a Dantewada court sentenced two Maoists to five years’ imprisonment under the Explosive Substances Act
The situation has been exacerbated by the swelling of the Indravati river, a major tributary of the Godavari, due to heavy rains in Odisha and Chhattisgarh
