The flooding has now led to the death of 16 people as per recent reports.

Relief efforts were hampered by power cuts, blocked roads covered in thick mud and debris.

A total of 22 people were working at the mine when the accident took place, 12 of whom escaped but suffered wounds, according to an official.

For floods and landslides during the southwest monsoon, Rs 577.84 crore has been approved for Karnataka, Rs 611.61 crore for Madhya Pradesh, and Rs 87.84 crore for Sikkim.
