Many wine shops were closed much before the lockdown period started, as the tipplers had purchased their required stock on Tuesday evening itself.

According to the investigating officer (IO) at the Vani police station, D.B. Bhadikar, three of the victims reportedly ran out of their liquor stocks as all wine shops are shut in the state.

Any violation will be dealt strictly, the police warned.

Chandrababu Naidu said that a more focused, cluster-based approach would be necessary to effectively prevent the disastrous impact of the 2nd wave infections.
