India's first bullet train will begin phased operations from August 15, 2027, starting with the Surat-Bilimora section of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail corridor. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw also announced three proposed high-speed rail corridors connecting Hyderabad with major southern cities.
India’s first bullet train corridor, the Mumbai–Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR), is nearing completion and will serve as a standardised model for future projects. Covering 508 km with 12 stations, the train will run at 320 kmph, cutting travel time to under two hours.
Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw told Parliament that the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project has completed 406 km of foundation work, 127 km track laying, and 8 station foundations. With Rs 78,839 crore spent, land acquired, and contracts awarded, tunnelling and bridge works advance
