Victims of the 1908 Musi floods were remembered at a memorial programme at OGH in Hyderabad. Speakers stressed protecting the river’s natural channels and catchments, while a book on eyewitness accounts was unveiled and a traditional Musi Flood Lavani performance presented.
Hyderabad commemorates the 117th anniversary of the catastrophic Musi River floods of 1908, which claimed nearly 15,000 lives and devastated large parts of the city. Triggered by a cloudburst and the breach of upstream reservoirs, the flood submerged key areas and prompted the Nizam government to commission M. Visvesvaraya to design preventive measures.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy reviewed the Musi flood situation, ordering evacuation of residents in low-lying areas, relief measures, and safe transport arrangements. With IMD warning of more rain, he placed all key departments on high alert.
Floodwater from the Musi River entered Hyderabad’s MGBS, forcing TGSRTC to suspend services. Buses were diverted to JBS, Uppal, LB Nagar, and Aramghar. Passengers have been urged to avoid MGBS and check helplines for updates.
