Kerala recorded 8,622 NDPS Act cases till August 2025, the highest ever, surpassing previous years. Excise officials cite both rising drug inflow and tighter enforcement. Alarmingly, over 300 students have been arrested this year, with seizures reported from schools and colleges.
The drugs included 845.28 kg of ganja, three ganja plants weighing 61 grams, 26.81 kg of ganja chocolates, 7.5 ml of hashish oil, 9.16 gm of MDMA and 502 gm of Alprazolam
As many as 75 cases were booked under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985 in this year as against 29 cases reported in 2023, indicating a growth by 159 percent
Acting on specific inputs, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized the drugs, around 7.09 kg of hydroponic weed, from two Indian passengers who arrived from Bangkok at the RGIA
Superintendent of Police D Uday Kumar Reddy said that 4,050 crimes were reported in this year as against 3,306 crimes last year, indicating a rise by 22.50 percent.
