In a post on X, the Hyderabad Lok Sabha MP called for an independent investigation into the "systemic failures" within the Indian Railways. The stampede, which occurred late Saturday night at the crowded railway station, claimed the lives of 18 people and left over a dozen injured.

The stampede was preceded by a swell in crowd of passengers waiting to board trains to Prayagraj -- where the Maha Kumbh is underway -- on platform numbers 14 and 15 of the station

Due to sudden rush, passengers on platforms pushed each other, causing simple injuries to some of them, say Railway Board officials

Many people were present on platform number 14 when Prayagraj Express train was standing at the platform

The exact cause of the stampede remains unclear, but initial reports suggest overcrowding due to train services for Maha Kumbh
