President Donald Trump has tasked Vice President J.D. Vance with leading negotiations in Islamabad aimed at securing a long-term settlement with Iran after a fragile ceasefire. The talks follow “Operation Epic Fury,” a US military campaign that weakened Iran’s defence infrastructure and forced Tehran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump’s prime-time address on the Iran war emphasised that US forces are close to completing their strategic objectives, including crippling Iran’s missile production, Navy, and preventing nuclear weapon development. He insisted the war is not about oil, highlighting America’s energy independence and domestic reserves.
US intelligence officials told lawmakers that Iran’s military capabilities have been significantly degraded by recent operations, but the regime remains intact and capable of rebuilding, continuing to pose a long-term threat to US interests and regional stability.
