BRS working president KT Rama Rao has condemned the arrest of Ladakh-based activist Sonam Wangchuk, who was leading a protest demanding statehood and Sixth Schedule status for the Union Territory
Following deadly clashes during a statehood protest led by the Leh Apex Body, Ladakh Lt Governor Kavinder Gupta announced a district-wide curfew in Leh to prevent further violence. Four people were killed and over 45 injured, including 22 police personnel, as protesters clashed with security forces and torched vehicles.
The activist who was detained on September 30 night at the city's Singhu border for violating prohibitory orders, has been released by the Delhi Police
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Wangchuk, who is a Ladakh-based engineer and educator said, “350 people slept in - 10 °C. 5000 people in the day here. But still not a word from the government.
Wangchuk said that he decided to come up with the innovation after he came to know that around 50,000 Indian troops were deployed at high altitude areas in harsh winter conditions.
