A magnitude 5.6 earthquake shook buildings in Taiwan on Thursday morning, as a series of temblors hit the island, causing little damage but possibly portending more seismic activity in the near future
The quake hit at 12:17 am (local time) and was centered 38 kilometres southeast of Chiayi County Hall at a depth of 10 kilometres. There were scattered reports of minor to moderate damage around the cities of Chiayi and Tainan
“Based on historical earthquake and tsunami data, Tsunami Threat does not exist for India. INCOIS will monitor sea level changes near the epicentral region and report in case of tsunami threat,” INCOIS in its special bulletin said.
