Tax revenue, the primary contributor, has also seen a dip in performance, achieving just Rs 1.02 lakh crore, which is around 62.07 per cent of the targeted Rs 1.64 lakh crore, compared to 65.37 per cent last year
"The month saw impressive milestones being reached, substantial growth in GST collections, and a significant rise in e-way bill generation, which points to an overall increase in economic activity. The stock market indices also reached record highs in July," the report states
Net direct tax collections stood at Rs 7.01 lakh crore for the current fiscal till September 17, showing a 23 per cent rise over the corresponding period of last year.
