The Telangana Mineral Development Corporation is facing criticism for allegedly failing to curb illegal sand mining and transportation from a Godavari river quarry in the Chennur constituency, with irregularities including diversion of sand consignments and collection of illegal charges
Residents of Rajupet in Manugur Municipality staged a rasta-roko by pitching a tent on the main road leading to sand reaches of the Godavari and nearby opencast mines. The protest, which began Thursday night, was against the dust pollution caused by hundreds of coal and sand trucks passing through the village.
Health Minister Damodara Rajanarasimha inaugurated a sand bazar at Sangupet–Jogipet, Sangareddy, announcing one facility every 20 km radius to supply quality sand at fair prices with online monitoring.
